eric's daily blog - a very personal view of the arcadia public inquiry

about arcadia

The Arcadia site covers the area between Ealing Broadway Station and Christchurch. The plan is to demolish all existing properties, except the Car Phone Warehouse and Sainsbury’s shops on The Broadway. The developer Glenkerrin wants to build 567 flats, in 7 blocks rising from 7 to 26 storeys; 37 medium sized retail outlets; a gym and some office space. The development would be built bridging the mainline railway line to bring the frontages up to the edge of Haven Green. The new retail space would be some 50% more than what exists now. The plan includes 230 car parking places for residents and 122 for retail and commercial use.

The Planning Application was approved by Ealing Council’s Planning Committee on 17th December 2008 and subsequently The Mayor of London declined to intervene in the matter. In January, 2009 The Government’s Secretary of State decided to intervene and ‘called in’ the application. National, not local or regional, government will now accept or reject the Arcadia Planning Application.
